The Road Not Taken



Two codes emerged in my mellow mood,
And sorry I could not use them both.
And be a thinker, long I stood
And looked one over as far as I could
To dare if bent vault's locking oath;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was messy and rather rare;
Though as for that the classing there
had torn it up - as not the same.

And me next morning equally lay
With thieves, each step in cotton black.
Oh, I'll keep the first for another day!
Yet knowing how day leads on to day,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be scribing this walls up to high
in jail here ages and ages hence:
Two codes I had, but hell knows why -
I took the one less true than lie,
And that has made all the difference.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Ich mag ja das Original recht gern - eines meiner Lieblinge.
Allein, das Bedeutungs-Schwangere kam aus sich selbst nieder, und siehe, es ward was Konkreteres geboren...

Wer will, bemerkt, es wurden vom Original bloß wenige Worte leicht verändert - und alles kriegt schon ein doch etwas anderes Gesicht
