2 men 1 Fish

Text zum Thema Liebe, lieben

The small village of Abdera rests its people not far from a lake, which has a lot more to offer apart from the open view to the mountains. „Found ya, Jacob!“ shouted Quinn. Quinn is a carpenter by profession. His appearance, jeans and jacket, is simple and his glasses although old are very bright and clear. A middle aged man that likes fishing and talks. „Why hello there, Quinn!“ Jacob replied. Jacob is a young man and Quinns apprentice. He is quick when it comes to learning and has a good soul. Both men brought their stools and fishing gear.
Jacob stared into the far melancholically for some long time. „Say Jacob, I saw the way you were looking at Margerete at the store the other day. When are you going to ask her out?“ asked Quinn breaking the silence.  „It´s not what you think. I think.“ Jacob replied and blushed.
„Ah, Silly me“ Quinn concluded and both men looked into the far for a short while. „Why are you eating Fish, Jacob?“ Quinn asked. „I love fish.“ Jacob replied with a bored tone. Quinn laughed gently „Yes, so much so that you pull the poor thing out of the water to cook it. So much for love then.“. Jacob smiled, remembering Quinns wittiness. „Wouldnt you rather say that you love yourself, while the fish satisfies your taste and your hungry belly?“ Quinn stated. „Yes“ Jacob answered and concluded: „If you want to put it correctly“. Quinn sighed and observed: „So much of love is fish love.“ and left Jacob frowning. „What do you mean by that?“ asked Jacob.
„Well what does it mean if one says he or she is in love?“ Quinn elaborated and went on „Is it not that one sees his or her crush, satisfying ones own physical or emotional needs? Thats selfish love. Wouldnt you agree? Dont you thereby make someone only the object of your love?“.
Jacob thought about that shortly and asked „Wouldn´t that mean that every love is selfish love?“.
„Well that is a great Question, Jacob. So if selfish love is always to satisfy your own needs, meaning that your own satisfaction is accumulated in somebody else, how do you make sure you are not selfish then?“. Jacob turned silent again and let those words weigh in his mind. „Well then“ Jacob said attempting a conlusion: „If being selfish means to be fed by the other persons quality, being not selfish therefore means to give or to invest yourself into someone without taking something in return.“. Quinn nodded „I agree, Jacob. We truly love to whom we give or invest ourselves in.“.

A very interesting Dialog among men. But how would the Partner fit in? Is she also selfish? LG Gina

I just wanted Jacob to be clear about his feelings. Sometimes you admire somebody by overlaying your expectations and imagination making that somebody a thing we feed our emotions on. Jacob will only know if its true love, if he actually invests himself to Margerete instead of admiring her from afar.
